Using you web server account

Web server accounts can be accessed over FTP or AFP.

When logging in via FTP, most FTP applications will automatically open your account folder on the server. However, some may not. If you end up at the share point root in the server, open the Users folder and then open your account folder.

Where do I put HTML and images for my web site?

Since we use Mac OS X Server, your account folder will contain all of the default folders assoicated with an actual Mac OS X account. Files that you wish to be accessed through your web address (www.members.jmug.org/~myaccount) need to be placed into the "Sites" folder.

What are the rest of the folders in my account for?

Besides the Sites folder mentioned above, your account will contain several other folders. If you wish to make files accessible to other JMUG-Connect users who have access to the server, place them in the "Public" folder.

The rest of the folders in your account are private. They cannot be accessed over the web or with FTP. You may use those folders for private files or storing backup files.
